George, the turtle

Tonight as we were pulling around the corner to our street, after eating out at our favorite mexican restaurant, Riley said, "Who's in our driveway????" As we got closer to our house, we realized it was Tammy & her girls and our other neighbor, Katherine, and her girls - all peering into a blue mop bucket. I was baffled, "Who knows?"

We pulled up to the house and they greeted us, "Welcome home!!! Look what was wandering around in your yard!" The kids practically flew out of the suburban before we could even park it and took a peek into the bucket - it was a turtle. A big turtle. Since we weren't home, they thought they would rescue it before Libby got her mangy little paws on it. Katherine had gardening gloves on and picked it up for the kids to take a closer look.

We all ooohhhed and ahhhhed and then put it down to let it back into the wild of our backyard jungle. Before we set him free (and after it peed on Jeff's foot), Alec exclaimed, "Let's name him George!" So, George, the turtle, had an exciting evening and was eventually set free - far from Libby's reach.

Once, when we were returning from Melanie and Jeff's Walled Lake house, we had to stop on the road leading into the City of Walled Lake (Maple ?) for a turtle crossing the road. Traffic backed up in both directions as he/she sauntered across. There is even a sign there that says: "Turtle Crossing" !

Which reminds me : "Why does a turtle cross the road ?" Same reason as the chicken, you goofs !
