Jeff and I spent the day with Alec at Cub Scout Day Camp. The theme for the week is becoming a knight - hence, the name Camp Cub-A-Lot. Despite the 90 degree temps with 80% humidity, we really had a great time. It was fun to watch Alec among his peers. He has a quiet confidence in the way that he carries himself --- meaning he does his own thing, could care less what anyone thinks, but is well liked. He's respectful to his leaders, too, which many kids
were not! I've noticed these characteristics at school as I've volunteered in his class this past year. Kids think he is funny and they like to be around him because he is nice to everyone...does that sound like anyone else we know? Maybe this guy on his cell phone...I just had to get a shot of him checking his email during a break today. No, he didn't do this all day. I just thought he might want a picture of himself and his beloved
technology. :)

Alec earned his BB belt loop, Archery belt loop, went on hikes, worked with leather, played silly cub scout games, conquered obstacle courses and played crazy games of tag like this one...

Alec took the tall blond kid down after I took this picture. Alec was determined to get the flag out of this kid's pants, who had cheated and
tied it onto his belt loop so no one would be able to capture it. It all ended up in a big heap on the grass!

Tomorrow...I get to go again! It's the last day and I think it's supposed to be just as hot. I really don't mind. With 4 kids, it's a rare and precious time when I get one of them to myself all day. I just love this boy. Tonight, I'm going to sneak a kiss on his cheek while he's sleeping, a sure fire way that it
won't be rubbed off.

Cub Day Camp will be on the list of "best kept secrets" when the value of cubbing is discussed. Not enough parental involvement on this one. It is definetly worth attending, taking a day off even, to see your boy in his own environment. Now, if burping and farting, throwing food, and laughing hysterically, are not up your alley, get over it ! I loved it, but then ...
Alec is such a sweetheart! Day Camp sounds like a lot of fun!! The only outdoor activity at ours was swimming.
Yep, it's even hotter here!
I totally agree Linda - I really did love going to cub scout day camp with Mitchell.
It's awesome that you and Jeff got to do this together.
How sweet (don't tell Alec I said that.) Sounds like a fun "day", and Alec really is a chip off the old block.
