We celebrated with family & friends with a surprise party! Jeff had no idea I had planned anything except dinner at our favorite place - El Patio. I had arranged for my parents to let everyone into the house at 6:45 and we were supposed to arrive home at 7:00 sharp! Problem was, we were done eating at 6:30. When Jeff went up to the counter to pay the bill, I quickly told the girls that when he came back to the table to say that they had to go to the bathroom. My other request...TAKE A REALLY LONG TIME! So Riley went first. Jeff was starting to get worried, but she came back soon enough. Just as he was standing up to leave, Hannah announces that she, too, must go use the bathroom. She followed my instructions perfectly and took...forever. As we all were getting our coats on, I told Jeff to get the kids into the car because I was going to use the restroom. "Boy, those beans really worked fast tonight!"
On the way home (still only 6:45), we passed a Rite Aid. On cue, Alec announced that he needed batteries for a new toy and he needed them NOW! I even finagled it so Ian had to go in with Jeff to make the purchase - always a sure fire way to add at least five minutes to an errand. As I saw them coming out of the store with the batteries, I grabbed Alec to take him in to use the restroom before we left. At that point Jeff announced, "This is taking us forever to get home!" Mission accomplished. Poor Ian really did have to go to the bathroom, but Jeff made him wait it out...we were going HOME!
Family (Day's, Facione's, Goldman's, Griswold's) & friends (Breen's & Gantt's) were hiding in the family room when we got there, but Jeff didn't come in right away because he wanted to do some important "fiddling around" in the garage. But, alas, he finally came in and was greeted with a big "Surprise!" and lots of tooting party horns.

Jeff opened presents. All fit for an old man:
Pepto Bismol
"Monkey Butt" powder (Thanks, Scott!
Now my boys have a new word to use at school.)
Fish Oil Tablets (Good for the ol' ticker!)
A cushioned toilet seat.
Some of the presents were fit for an 8-year-old boy AND a crude old man:
The book, "Sir Farts-A-Lot Hunts the Booger." Nice. They live in the Kingdom of Armpit and his side-kick is Sir Bedwetter. They'll have some fun with that!

We all wore black to mourn the young Jeff we once knew.
We wrapped up the evening with some Rock Band. Go Paul!

I was indeed totally surprised. The bathroom and battery stops seemed so true to every day life! Long...but certainly true to life.
thanks to Amy for throwing the party and everyone who came! I definitely felt very loved ;-)
It's hard to take a drummer seriously when he wears a Bozo hat !
We love you, Jeff !
Fun! Fun! I was giggling at everyone wearing black, and at the gifts! Hilarious!!
Hope you had an awesome day, Jeff!
As a fellow 1969er, I appreciate Jeff for going first into the big 4-0 land. May we all reach that day with such style (bozo hat included).
Happy Birthday Jeff.
I was THERE and I was laughing so hard at these pics!! Everyone wearing black was just too funny! :) Jeff is such an awesome guy/brother! He is so generous, optimistic and fun. Yeah for the big 4-0!
Jeff is such a great sport. I think you could pull any prank or surprise on him and he would laugh and just roll with the punches. We think Jeff is awesome!! What a fun night!
