Rewind! Christmas Dance

Riley went to the 7/8th grade Christmas dance on December 18th. She got all prettied up and met her friends there. Funny story...I ended up having to go into the building with her when I dropped her off because Hannah had left her copy of "Twilight" in her locker & wanted me to grab it for her. I usually wouldn't have, but there were rumors of a snow day the next day, which led right into our winter break, and she really wanted to be able to read it over the holiday....and, what mom would give up the chance to be crammed in a small, sweaty school entrance full of middle schoolers the night of the big dance? Not me!

Riley kept her distance from me as we entered the building, but after she found her friends she did give me a smile & mouthed "Good-Bye!" to me. The boys were all in jeans & t-shirts, but the girls really out-did themselves. They all had dresses on, fancy hair, and perfume. Yup, lots of perfume fumes in the air that night. Anyway, I didn't get very far and never made it to Hannah's locker. I was afraid I was going to be nabbed by one of the chaperones to stay and help - they looked tired already! So, I just made my way through the mob and out the doors.

Can I just say that I'm so glad we only have to do middle school once in this life? It's still the same as when I went - your outfit has to be just right every time you leave the house, every hair must be in place on your head, and you have to giggle a lot and be really loud around your girly friends. But I'm proud of Riley...she hangs with a great crowd and has taken all of the middle school stuff in stride.

Hang in there Riley! Only 6 more months and you'll be a lowly freshman at the high school. Enjoy being one of the "big dawgs" while you can!

I don't think I went to Jr. High - I think I repressed those bad memories.

Riley is growing up and becoming a beautiful young woman!
