We've hired a full-time security guard for our mailbox.
Here's a picture of our new employee.
Come to find out, Eastern Screech Owls like to nest in wooden boxes. Wooden boxes much like the one that houses mine & my neighbor's mailboxes.
In fact, my neighbor, Tammy, found Jeff at the mailbox today trying to get our mail without getting his hand pecked off! She happened to have her camera with her & snapped these next shots of him & his brave act of chivalry.

Notice our owl moved down 4 mailboxes after Jeff scared it off! What Tammy didn't get a shot of was the owl flying out, banging all over Jeff's windshield, and then flying safely to a new post. She was too busy running for her life! I don't blame her...!

That owl just thinks your magical like Harry Potter - I'm sure it was carrying Hannah's invitation to attend Hogwarts next year!
So does it really screech? I was nervous looking at those pictures, I can't imagine putting my hand near it!
you should make a scrapbook of all your michigan vermin!!!
Yikes! You might want to hire an employee that isn't so intimidating. That one is kind of freaky!
That was wild, wasn't it?? i took briana up there after she got home from school to see it and austin's dad came up and said it was a barn owl and they were federally protected. then he said that the owl should go back into the trees so he scared it out of the boxes on purpose so it would fly away. he was such a pain to listen to. he didn't think it was cool at all. he was just so serious the whole time.
You guys are cracking me up lately.
I think you ought to keep a photo copy of this to send to anyone you are not wanting communication with, so you can honestly say : " What ??? You sent a card ? Well, we didn't get it !" :)
"hoo, hoo's" gonna get their hand pecked off??!! Jeff is, Jeff is!!
