(singing)
"NYC-eeeeee!! What is it about you??"
Our weekend in the Big Apple with our girls was
FAB-U-LOUS!!
We arrived on Friday a little before noon
and we wasted no time before we hit the streets to take it all in!
Our first item of business:
Street meat for lunch.
The weather was beautiful - 50 degrees!
We coined a new phrase during this trip - food remorse.
Everytime we decided on a meal or snack,
we always saw a place after that may have been better!
In any case, everything we consumed was delicious.
This first day included LOTS of walking!
The girls wanted to see Times Square first.
Hannah couldn't believe how small the New Year's
Ball was in person!
Next we walked to Rockefeller Center
to see the ice skaters and eat cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery.
The cupcakes were yummy but Riley's cheesecake
took a close second!
We decided from there to go to the "Top of the Rock" -
to the observation deck on the 70th floor
of the Rockefeller Building.
The view up there was amazing and we chatted
with the security guards for quite a while
about the recent hurricane. What a crazy place to live!
From there,
we walked all the way to Central Park...
Riley is taking photography right now
and she didn't hold back to get some amazing shots!!
From Central Park,
we walked to the temple.
It was great to see Moroni looking over the city!
We went inside to the church building area -
looked just like your typical LDS building.
We even met some scouts getting ready for a campout that night.
I love how the church is the same where ever you are in the world!
At this point of the day,
the girls were TIRED!
So we hopped on the subway and headed for
dinner at a Mario Batali restaurant in
Greenwich Village called "Otto".
We feasted on delicious New York style pizza -
our favorite was the white sauce variety!
In Greenwich Village we saw the famous arch
and passed by Seinfeld's restaurant.
That pic is for Mario!
Our evening ended with the reason for this
vacation - Annie!
It was such an entertaining show.
And I would have seen it again the next night!
The actress who played Annie had a perfect New York accent
and sang every song that way.
It was an updated version of the musical -
Riley said they sped up "Tomorrow" and lowered the key
for "It's a Hard Knock Life."
If you get a chance to see it on Broadway...GO!!!
We are waiting for the CD to come out -
they haven't even made one yet.

Will go down as one of the greatest trips with my girls of all time! It was bitter cold at times, but loads of fun! We kept saying...now what if we lived here....or what if we lived here...
We all agreed we'd go broke catching all the shows and food venues. Food regret was real with the street meat! Otherwise, Amy always gets worked up when I say the food was a 6-8 on a 1-10 scale. There are, in general, very few 9-10's in my book. I'm still waiting for Jeff NOrman and I to open the "10" which is to be named, "Thick, Rich, and Buttery" and will feature a wide array of smoked meats and bacon explosions!
All meals served at Thick Rich & Buttery come with a side of TUMS!!
We had food remorse on our trip too-- too many options... too little time!!
LOVE NYC & LOVE this little "senior trip" to see ANNIE for Riley & Hannah!
Memory of a lifetime!!
that looks so fun...and delicious! You guys are definately the "cool parents".
Shouldn't "street meat" give you pause from the get-go? Like getting sushi from a gas-station? Ha ha!
Would love to see Annie on Broadway! I'm sure it was awesome. I still remember Mom taking me for my 10th bday to the Fisher theater in downtown Detroit, baby!
