Two weekends ago,
we headed up north for some skiing
and outdoor winter fun!
Bill & Cyndie generously let us stay at their beautiful
cottage on Burt Lake.
I didn't take a picture
but their new master bedroom had a wood
burning fire place & a huge sky light right over the bed.
It was heavenly falling asleep to the crackling fire!
When we arrived on Friday afternoon,
Hannah and Ian immediately built "Lumpy" the snowman before
we headed to Nubs Nob to night ski.
I hadn't been skiing in about 12 years
but it came right back - just like riding a bike!
We skiied until our fingers were numb
and then headed back to the cottage for hot chocolate and some Nacho Libre.
Saturday morning, we went to our favorite breakfast spot
and had pancakes as big as our heads!
After breakfast, we enjoyed the gorgeous ride back to Nubs Nob!
The trees made it feel like we were in Narnia.
We bought a full day pass and enjoyed every minute of it.
Ian's favorite run was called "Cat Track", which
we all did together A LOT,
we all did together A LOT,
but Jeff, Alec and Riley liked the more difficult ones...
The ski conditions were perfect -
lots of new, powdery snow.
Hannah took a break mid-afternoon
for her sore feet. Poor Hannah!!
When we could ski no more,
we went back to Bill's and made fajitas for dinner...
it was such a cozy & relaxing night! Just perfect.
Sunday morning we went to church at the Petosky Branch -
only about 20 minutes away.
After church, we found 5 pairs of snowshoes in Bill's garage and we
walked out on the ice to explore and watch the ice fishermen.
It was surreal walking around where we are usually boating in the summertime!

Judging by Jeff's excess hairiness, he needs to lay off the hormones !
Got such a chuckle out of Alec's long john shot !
What a great ad for Michigan !
Oh man! What a perfect winter get-away!!!! Bill & Cindy's place looks absolutely magical. What a blessing!
K, I do have to say that I think "Nub's Nob" is a ski resort named by Jeff Norman-- am I right?!?! Nubbin's Nob...haha!!
The Petosky branch is my mother & father in-law's branch! You guys make the snow look like a ton of fun!
Looks like a blast! Derek and I just spent the past week up there and it was wonderful!
Bottom line, Northern Michigan is one of the reasons we LOVE Michigan and we choose to live here! Bill and Cindy's digs are AMAZING and I can hardly wait to head back up this summer.
DOESN'T compare to skiing in the west, but its much better than I thought it would be. For our family, it was perfect. Makes me miss the west and seriously reconsider getting out there for a few powdery days soon ;-)
