Sunday Dinner

I don't know about you, but I want Sunday dinner to be special yet easy. Last Sunday I rediscovered two old favorites that are yummy and don't take a lot of time to prepare. They both came from the recipe boxes of two "old favorite" friends - Marianne Overson and Amy Allred...Enjoy!

Marianne's Dinner Rolls

Scald 1 C milk
Add 1 T sugar, 2 T butter, and 1/2 t salt.
Stir until dissolved.

Sprinkle 1 pkg. yeast over 2 T HOT water.
Add milk mixture after it is cooled.

Beat in 1 egg.
Add 2 2/3 C flour.
Knead in electric mixer.
Let rise for about an hour, form into rolls, and bake at 400 for 10-12 minutes.
(I usually double this recipe)

Kahoon's Roast
(Amy Allred)

Put beef chuck roast in crock pot and sprinkle with garlic salt.

In a mixing bowl, combine:
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 packet Lipton onion soup mix
1 can beef gravy
1/2 C brown sugar
3 T vinegar
2 T soy sauce
2 T worcestershire sauce

Pour mixture over roast.
Cook on low for 12 hours or on high for 7 hours.

Strain drippings through strainer into saucepan. Add potato water (about 2 cups), and add corn starch and water mixture to thicken.

Serve roast with gravy, mashed potatoes, and a veggie.

For a minute there I thought you said "old" friends. Like older than you...:)
Sunday we had really orange rolls with the glaze made from the orange juice from our trees. Not to brag too much, but they were absolutely to die for.
