A Harmonious Day spent with Riley...

Yesterday, I attended a multi-district choir festival as a chaperone with Riley's 7th grade "mixed choir". We arrived at her school (pictured above) at 7:30am, and then traveled in style to South Lyon East High School via big yellow school bus full of lots of wiggly & giggly 7th grade BFF's!

They performed 2 songs for 5 judges and really did an outstanding job! After their performance, they participated in a clinic with one of the judges. He did some vocal exercises with them to help them with tone, where he taught them to make lots of silly faces with big, open mouths and even funnier noises to get on the "top" of a note.

They also had to sightread as a choir for another judge. I missed that part because I was in the restroom with one of the girls who was feeling a bit "queasy." I had to follow her around the rest of the morning with a trash can "just in case". I bet she was glad to get rid of me at lunch.

At the end of the morning, they received their scores - all 1's - which gave them a first division ranking! They were all really proud of themselves. We then headed back to the school, with a stop at McDonald's on the way. I felt so sorry for all the unsuspecting diners when our 2 buses pulled up with a wave of 13-year-olds rushing through the doors.

I was so glad that I was able to attend. I had a great time with Riley, and she has some really cute friends. They all really like her and are just good kids all around. It was fun to see her in her element, doing something that she truly loves. I kept thinking, "Who has taken over my daughter's body and where have they taken her??" My (sometimes) bossy, (proned to) grouchy, and (when taunted) annoyed daughter was gone and replaced with a confident, happy, content, smiling (giggling too), social butterfly who was having a great time with...ME! (who would have guessed?!)

Love you, Riley - I had a super day with you and your friends!

I love talking books with her (because I, too, am reading all the books that are all the rage with the teens these days..aka; Twighlight, New Moon, Eclipse)!! She is growing up to be quite the gal! :) Glad you guys had a great time yesterday! :)

That sounds like such a special day for both of you. I'm sure you'll both remember that as the years go by. Speaking of which, is she really turning 13 this year?!?
