I can't believe it has been 10 years since Hannah joined our family. It seems like only yesterday that Suzy came to stay with little Riley at our house while Jeff and I left for the hospital. Hannah was born with patience-she was ready to be born but we had to wait for the doctor to arrive who was stuck in traffic on 90th South! Hannah waited patiently and arrived about an hour later - thank goodness for epidurals or the poor nurse would have had to deliver her! We were so surprised and elated that she was a girl. She came into this world just as calm as could be. She didn't cry much, or complain, and I remember her in the little bed they put her in just laying there in her birthday suit looking around. She waited patiently until we were able to hold her, and was just fine when we had to put her down again.
Just as she came into this world, she has always been our calm and collected child, patient with her siblings, and happy as can be. One of her friends mothers recently described her as "sun-shiney" and I would have to agree! Hannah is always willing to help me out, especially with Ian, and she does it with a smile! Now, there was the time when she had a fit at the Cincinnati Reds game when she wanted a corn dog instead of a hot dog, but that was a long time ago....!
We celebrated her birthday with a sleepover with friends on Friday, Sept. 14th. After they all arrived (giggles and all) to our house, we had pizza, did a hair ribbon craft, and then we took them all putt-putt golfing. Later that night, they watched movies and made fuzzy slippers out of flip-flops. I think they were up until about 2 am, but Jeff and I went to bed earlier. We made pancakes and bacon for breakfast, and spent the rest of the day at home. Hannah wanted fried chicken and mashed potatoes for her birthday dinner - all homemade, I might add - and we had cupcakes and ice cream, too.
We love you, Hannah! We are so proud of you and love you so much! You are a beautiful dancer, getting really good on the piano, but most of all we love you because you add so much to our family! Here's to your 1st 10 years!
Love, Mom

I can't believe that she is 10! She was so little the last time I saw her. Does she still have her little raspy voice..I loved it! Where does time go? She is so cute!Happy Birthday Hannah......
amy - yes, her voice is still raspy, not as noticable now, though, because she is older! I told the girls I ran into you at Time Out and they still remembered all the fun we had at your cabin with you guys..time does fly!
Happy Birthday, Hannah!! I still remember coming to your first birthday party and throwing up the #1 in that cute picture we all took with you with our mouths hanging open!! :) Your party sounded so fun! I bet all of your friends loved it! We love you!
I was just talking about coming to your house to stay with Riley and how she woke in the middle of the night and wandered in to find you, discovered me, and said, "help, help, somebody help me!" The other Riley funny was when I couldn't figure out your stick shift and she kept saying, "git it, go, DRIVE!!" She was such a cute toddler! And so was Hannah! She's always been so cute and calm. She's so good with my girls...always patient and playful. I'm glad she had a good bday!
I came to help your Mom when you were born, but she had everything in hand when I got there ... partly because you were a calmer baby, but mostly because you were #2. Been there, done that !
We would wrap you up (it is called "swaddling") so tight in the little receiving blankets, but every time you would manage to get one big toe out ! Somewhere we have a picture of that ... along with the picture of you unrolling an entire tube of TP !
When you were blessed, Hannah, your Daddy said your name was chosen from the Biblical Hannah. She was the mother of Samuel the prophet. At first she had no children, and it made her so sad. She cried, and she prayed, and after a long time of exercising her patience and trust in the Lord, she was given Samuel. And she gave Samuel to the Lord's service. That is why your name was chosen, hoping that you would always be patient, that you would trust in the Lord, and you would be blessed in many great ways. I see those traits in you now ... patience and kindness and trust in the Lord. You are living out your blessing. We love you very much !
