Here's some highlights of our preparations...
December 18th:
We began a new tradition in our home, inspired by the Christmas Story,
"The Last Straw". We each drew a "secret person's" name that we have been doing kind deeds for. As we do these acts of kindness, we put straw in the manger for the Baby Jesus. As we do more & more for each other, the bed gets softer and we are reminded what Christmas is really about.
This has been so much fun as I have watched beds being made, pj's laid out,
special breakfasts prepared, shoes shined, rooms tidied,
kind notes being hidden - all done secretly!
Christmas morning we will "reveal" who we had.
This is definitely something we will do again!

We held our 1st Annual Christmas Caroling Party.
We invited the ward choir, friends of the kids' who like to sing, and the missionaries.
Over 50 people came and we sang, ate cookies, and enjoyed the holiday cheer.
Grandma & Grandpa Day even attended, and Grandma told
"The Star of Melvin" to a thoroughly entertained audience.
I'm always amazed at her talent & stories that she can just pull
out of her hat.
Thanks, Grandma!
December 20th:
The boys decorated their gingerbread house - all by themselves!
....and did a very nice job.

December 22:
We had an "early" Christmas Eve at Grandma & Grandpa's house...
Complete with lasagna & breadsticks, games,
"The Mitten" story told by Grandma, the search for the pickle ornament,
and a private concert from Grandpa Day and his clarinet.
Thank you for sharing your talents with our family!

...and then onto FESTIVUS. Here's some highlights:
"Turtleneck contest" cookies (thanks, Leslie!).

Silly costumes.

The measuring of the turtlenecks...a very scientific process.
December 24th:
The boy cousins are spending the day at Grammy's house and
then we are all gathering there for dinner & reading of the Christmas Story.
Can't wait!
