The girls had all of their clothes laid out last night before they went to bed, each with their new shoes and backpacks by the front door. Hannah could hardly sleep because she was so excited to be a middle-schooler, and Riley was just happy to see all of her friends again.
When Hannah was eating her HoneyNut Cheerios this morning, she asked if I was going to the bus stop *of course, I said* and then decided later that she'd be just fine with Riley there. I have waved her off on her first day for the last 6 years and it made me feel good that she still wanted me there.
When the kids got home, Hannah asked if I cried when she left, and Alec informed me that several 2nd grade moms came to school today with their kids. According to Alec, they got a big chair in the classroom and on the chalkboard it said that it cost "$10 or $15" for them to be there. Hmmm. Sounds fishy to me. I think that after he wiped the kiss off his forehead that I gave him at the bus stop, he secretly wished I had followed the bus, taken him to his classroom, and paid the 15 dollars to spend the morning with him and his class. It's good to be loved.

Love it!! Thanks for the pics and the run-down of events Amy!!
I actually got a little choked up at the sight of your TEENAGE girls!! They both look so grown up and I can't believe they are in 8th and 6th this year. They are so cute and such good girls. You should be proud.
It must seem weird having the house ALMOST to yourself now. Is this the last year before Ian will start kindergarten?
The first day of school is so much fun, but also so bittersweet. Excuse me while I go blubber to myself...I feel old, and why can't all these kids stop growing up so fast!?!
Suz - This IS my last year of having kids home. Next year Ian will be in all-day-everyday kindergarten.
I'm in denial and don't. want. to. talk. about. it. Pass the tissues.
(passing a tissue) well, at least you can pay a nominal fee and attend with Ian next year? LOL!
Your kids are so cute, and the girls look so grown up.
Yay for the first day of school! It's going to be a fun year. Anyway, I'm reading your sidebar and I wonder why Ian didn't say he lived at Costco? :)
Also, Brooke has Froggy Learns to Swim Book, and we love it!!
There is just something about a big yellow school bus taking our babies that seems like the "right of passage" insignia. " I am grown -up now. Ready or not !" should be written in "child font" underneath.
Just one question: How long did Hannah spend in the bathroom getting that perfect hair, outfit and smile ready! Watch out middle school boys!
