Chaperoning and Bucket Lists

Last weekend, I chaperoned Riley's choir trip to Chicago. The first day was soooo tiring! We left the school at 6:00 am on 3 charter buses full to capacity. The rest of the itinerary for the day was as follows: Lunch at Navy Pier (Bubba Gump's), Shed Aquarium (dolphin show), Hancock Tower (Sear's Tower was closed due to nasty weather - wind, rain, hail, tornado watch), Hark Rock Cafe for dinner, and "Wicked" the musical. All topped off with an hour drive north to our hotel! We were pooped by the end of the day (1:00 am)!

Okay, so here's where the trip got really exciting for me! Day 2 was spent at Six Flags and I don't know if it was the shrimp from Bubba's or lack of sleep or giggling kids drinking Monster on a charter bus 0r pure stupidity....

But, as we were waiting for the kids to get off the log ride for the 3rd time, my friends Marcia (Audrey's mom) and Kelly (my neighbor and Alec's 1st grade teacher) were watching the "Daredevil Dive" and the 3 of us agreed that we were daredevils. We didn't even think about it - just got in line and saddled up!

We took this picture for our funerals...just in case the dive didn't work out so well. We wanted to look happy in our final moments of daredevil-hood....

They tied us up together, hoisted our 30-something hiney's up to a huge tower of some sort. When we got to the top, Kelly counted down (from like 52 or something) and then pulled the rip-cord! Away we flew....

Needless to say, we didn't need that previous picture for our funerals...we made it in one piece, minus our voices (they were gone!) and shaking feet for the next hour - no kidding.

This is the most insane thing I have EVER done, but it was exhilarating! I don't think I could have done it by myself - there was definitely strength in numbers. Anyway, check! for my bucket list for bungee jumping. Riley and Audrey stood at the bottom of the platform and looked terrified, but dutifully snapped shots of the jump as requested.

Are you having an early mid-life crisis?

Three questions ...

Did you not once think :" This could leave my children motherless !"

What is the significance of Riley and friends puffing out their cheeks ?

Did the choir trip require any singing ? Besides on the bus, I mean.

Linda....

1 - I did think that for a moment when I asked the guy who secured all of our equipment how long he had been doing this. His answer, "This is my second day!" YIKES!

2 - All I know is that when you're in middle school and everyone is puffing up their cheeks, so are you!

3 - No singing this time. However, in preparation, they sang a lot of the songs from "Wicked".
