Quick Catch-Up .....HAPPY 13TH BIRTHDAY, RILEY!!

We thought we'd let Riley enjoy a few weeks as being a teenager before we blogged about it (in truth, I've been traveling the world with friends and family to Chicago and Virginia, and I am just now in my catch-up mode after being away for so long!)

Anyhow, Riley had a great b-day. We celebrated her actual birthday on April 3rd with just our family. She wanted me to make her favorite dinner - enchiladas - and we topped that off with a Baskin Robbins ice cream cake. After dinner that night, she wanted to go on a trip to Dick's Sporting Goods to load up on all the softball equipment she needed for this year's season. Yeah! Gifts from us included a couple of books and an iHome for her Nano....Gifts from grandparents and aunts and uncles included lots of gift cards to American Eagle and Barnes & Noble...thank you!!!

There are so many things that we love and appreciate about Riley. She never ceases to amaze me with her curiosity about the world around her and her ability to remember everything she learns about it. Riley has a great sense of humor and her laugh is contagious. She has always loved music, and singing and playing the piano beautifully have always come naturally to her. I'm always so proud of her when she shares her musical talents without hesitation and without showing her nerves! She is a good example to her brothers and sister - a good student at school, self-motivated, and avid reader. We love you so much, Riley!

On Friday, April 4th, Riley had her "friend birthday party" and we went to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner and then to the movies to see "Nim's Island". Alec was really relieved that Riley considered him her friend and that he got to go, too!

I recognize the girl in the blue sweater from Church. Isn't she the one that had the matching Easter outfit ?
Looks like a fun par-r-rty !

We love Riley so much. She is now being "with the grown-ups" at family doings, and not with the kids.
All grown-up herself at 13 !

I heard about a book the other day called "Dragon Slippers" by Jessica Day George that I think she might like. It is a fantasy and is at Target besides B&N.

Happy Birthday Riley!!

The party sounds like a lot of fun-- and hooray for little brothers that came too.

How exciting to have a teenager in the house! :)

"you come my car be fun"?! Wasn't that just yesterday?! Happy Birthday Riley! I thought we had picked out the perfect gift for you...sounds like we weren't that "original" after all?!

Looks like a fun party! Hannah in those pics reminds me of me in the pics at Suzy's "road rally" b-day party long ago...maybe even her 13th...right, Suz?
