Updates...

I'm realizing a much needed "update" on each member of our family is in order.
We have been keeping busy this month...
and here's the scoop!

IAN: Ian is on an indoor flag football team and has a game every Saturday. He was a bit disappointed that he wasn't on Adam's team w/Uncle Scott as the coach, but he's really enjoying it and is starting to understand the game more & more. He has also hit the slopes this year by joining "Ski Club" at school. Thursday nights we head over to "Alpine Valley" and ski. This has been so great and is only 10 minutes from home.

He has missed more school in 2nd grade than any of our other kids combined! He has been getting over a nasty virus that just won't go away and has missed 3 days of school. In December, he had pneumonia and missed a whole week! The up-side is that all of those days home allowed him to catch up on his 2 favorite book series right now..."Captain Underpants" and "Frannie K. Stein".

(warming up in the ski lodge)

ALEC: Alec is also doing flag football, but really wishes he was skiing every Saturday! Along with Ian, he is loving "Ski Club" and passed the "advanced beginner" class last week. He has no fear and last week, after lessons, Jeff took him on "Everest" - the biggest run at Alpine. Alec was so proud of himself that he made it down in one piece!

Alec has also really loved graduating from cub scouts to 11-yr-old scouts. He & Jeff went on their first "freeze-out" on Friday night. They camped out in the snow and got to shoot guns by the light of their headlights with the other boys & leaders. Can I say anymore?....HEAVEN for both of them!!
(our 2 "scouters" at Philmont last July)

HANNAH: Among other things, Hannah survived her first round of finals in high school. She had a great 1st semester - all A's and B's - and has made a lot of new friends. One of her best friends at school is a Mormon too, but they didn't know it until they both shared in English class that they were born in Utah. Maddie is in the Clarkston Ward (Ruth Walker's grand-daughter) and they are hoping to go to EFY together this summer.

Hannah is in high demand for babysitting jobs, which has helped fund her love for shopping! She is also my resident "baker" and crafting assistant. Our latest project was making pajama bottoms...which didn't turn out quite the way we had hoped - we could fit 2 Hannahs inside them!!

Hannah has also been busy at rehearsals for the school musical, "Footloose". She was cast in the "adult chorus" and was disappointed that she wouldn't be able to dress like an 80's-teenager. But she has enjoyed it anyway and this has been a great experience for her.

RILEY: Riley is also in "Footloose" and is playing "Vi", Ariel's mother, so she has been busy at rehearsal's and memorizing lines at home. This is a challenging role because she has a solo AND she has to be somber...so different than "Grandpa George" last year in Willy Wonka!

Riley (and I) LOVE the fact that she has her own car and can get to everywhere she needs to be without my help! On Thursdays after school, she tutors a little girl at the elementary school and she still goes to piano lessons every now & then when she can squeeze them in.

Besides keeping up in her 2 AP classes, BOYS have started to take up some of her time....she is learning to juggle her social & academic life...not easy!!

JEFF: Most of January, Jeff has been traveling every week....Chicago, California, and, this week, San Antonio. He amazes me as he balances his work, church, and family responsibilities. The sustaining prayers of our ward family have truly been felt as he serves as Bishop. His days are long but he never complains and always sees the good in every situation.

For fun, he has been playing on an EARLY Saturday morning ice-hockey league and continues to run here & there when he can. He doesn't cook as much as he used to, but last Saturday afternoon he came home with all the fixin's for homemade egg rolls & made-to-order stir-fry...I LOVE when he takes over the kitchen duties!!

ME!: Being the Bishop's wife sometimes means you take on more than you can chew...right now I teach the 12/13-yr-old Sunday school class, serve as the Wolf/Bear Den Leader, and I'm substituting for the chorister in Relief Society until April. Needless to say, even though those responsibilities keep me SUPER busy, I'm learning so much from each assignment and I'm genuinely happy to do it.

Eating out less often has been a New Year's resolution for me & I've actually enjoyed planning meals and trying out new recipes. The family's "Plenty to Eat" cookbook pretty much stays in my purse for when I'm at the grocery store.

I've caught the January-organization-bug and have many projects I've been working on...the biggest is our master bedroom & bathroom. Goodbye gold walls & trim!! Dennis is coming to do some drywall repair & install a new tile floor in the shower...and then my paint brush will start flyin'!! Here's a picture of my inspiration for the new room:

I've also been crafting up a STORM!!...Pillow covers & Valentine's Day decorations.

And that's JANUARY in a nutshell at the Day Home! We're looking forward to a few more months of hibernation, snowy days, and cozy nights. :)

Whew ! I'm tired just reading about the goings and comings !

You are lucky to redecorate your bedroom. I am stuck trying to find a new comforter and shams online. Any suggestions for little known sites ?
