and he had a business trip to New York City the same week.
I decided to tag along and get away with the birthday boy!
We arrived on a Wednesday afternoon and stayed right in Times Square -
what a feast for the eyes & senses!
and it was fabulous -
a classic Broadway show filled with big musical & dance numbers,
just what I wanted to see!
The next day Jeff had to work,
so I took the train to Hoboken, NJ and met up with Kelly Ellis.
We went to Carlo's Bakery {Cake Boss} and I stocked up on Canoli's & Lobster Tails
to take home to the kids.
enjoyed the gorgeous view of Manhattan on the other side
...can you spot the Empire State Building?
After that, I got to see her cute house in New Providence
and enjoy a delicious lunch in their quaint downtown.
It was such a treat to spend a day with my dear friend!
If you can believe it, I rode the train back to the city and walked from
Penn Station back to the hotel all by my lonesome
& didn't get lost anywhere along the 15 blocks!
We were so fortunate to have great weather...sunny and 40-50 degrees!
On my walk, I even passed Jeff's office building at 1 Penn...
That night we feasted on New York style pizza
and saw "Rock of Ages".
The music was right up our alley - all rock songs from the 80's -
and the show was fantastic too, although a little edgy at times.

Jeff took Friday off so we had the whole day to explore the city...
we mastered the subway system and got to see
the Stock Exchange, Ground Zero, Tiffany's,
ate a NY Bagel for lunch, and had even jumped in a cab
for an andrenaline rush! :)
(Jeff eating some "street meat")
(enjoying the view on Wall Street)

(the NEW towers they are building at Ground Zero -
now called the "National September 11 Memorial")
The church where thousands sought solace & refuge in those
first few weeks after the attacks...such a moving experience to see.
This is the church where people decorated the fence with flowers and signs
looking for their loved ones.
To get into the actual memorial you had to have a ticket - free of charge -
and go through oodles of security.
When we got in, there are 2 reflection pools serving as a memorial
for all of those who died that day.
We found the name of Jeff's co-worker, Mark Bingham,
who was on Flight 93.
Several people left flowers by the names of those they knew.

We felt so fortunate to be able to see this together
and were touched by the reverence we felt there.
If you ever have the chance, you need to go see this.
That night,
we met up with Brian & Kelly at an Italian restaurant
and then we saw "Spiderman" together.
The special effects were amazing and all the music was by U2,
so it was another great show to see!
Saturday, we came home to our kids who were so happy to see us!
Since then, we have been keeping warm & cozy...
all weekend the boys had a "Harry Potter" movie marathon
while the girls had a "Gilmore Girls" marathon - we're hooked!
What did you do over the weekend?

That was so much fun! I'm so glad you came. I think you need to come with Jeff every time he comes to the city...or come with all the girls instead!!
cute pics! Looks like a fun trip. And way to go doing the subway on your own! Yikes! I don't know if I would have been as brave.
