Day 2 was full of adventure -
a bike ride around the island & a swamp boat ride,
complete with all-things-gator!
Key Lime Pie & a lighthouse completed the day...
Alec, Hannah, & Jeff maneuvered the surrey,
which was a head-turner, for sure.
Ian, Riley & I opted for the more traditional route.
It was a hot & muggy morning, so we only lasted about an hour
before we started hearing, "How much longer?"
"Where are we going?"

After some interesting sights,
we ended up stopping for drinks at Seven Eleven...

We grabbed our loot, piled in the air-conditioned car,
and drove an hour south to the everglades...
This trip we opted out of Disney World, in order to explore
some things we never had before in FL.
This was going to be an adventure!
As we were driving along,
we saw road signs to watch out, not for turtles, but for panthers!
What??!!?
And we saw alligators floating in the water-filled ditches along the road.
Scary!
After arriving at "Speedy's Air Boat Tours",
we nibbled on some Gator Nuggets.
See the water behind us? It was filled with alligators - a natural preserve area.

You would NEVER see me swimming in this water. Yikes!
Not long after we loaded onto the boat and headed out onto the swamp
it started to rain. And then it started to POUR.
Captain Jimmy-Bob decided to park us under some trees
(filled with snakes & LARGE bugs)
to wait for the downpour to stop.
We were fuh-reezing and soaking wet. It was like we were
standing in the shower with our clothes on. For 15 minutes.
Once the rain stopped, Jimmy-Bob dried us off...
What I don't have a picture of is the 3 mexicans who walked out of the jungle
with machetes and hopped onto our boat.
No joke.
When Jimmy-Bob picked them up, he said that "Survivor Man"
wouldn't even last out there.
Makes ya wonder, huh?

We ended our afternoon in the Everglades by holding
"Buddy" the pet alligator.
His jaws were clamped up in case our forearms looked tasty...
After we got back to Sanibel and SHOWERED,
we ate another delicious dinner and ordered dessert -
Key Lime Pie.

We enjoyed the sunset at the other side of the island,
near the lighthouse.
We collected more shells
and dipped our feet in the warm water.

I think I'm still stuck at the part where the mexicans came out of the jungle & joined your boat with machetes?? Holy Moly!! I had no idea gators were everywhere like that down there!
That boat tour is awesome. Those pictures are seriously my favorites, what a fun adventure! The beach still looks heavenly.
We're copying your idea & heading to explore the CA beach this summer!
Machetes? I thought you were kidding. What a memorable trip...were the gator nuggets any good?
