Swamp People

As far as vermon in the yard goes,
our new house has delivered!

I thought spring was the time for all these little critters to come out of their
hiding places, but in the last week we have had several
sightings all around the house.

First, Jeff almost stepped on a toad while he was grilling dinner on the deck
last Sunday. It must have been the perfect spot to sun
his bumpy, little back in.
We set him on the deck railing, and the girls tormented him
until he decided to jump.

Second, a frog was caught between the screen & window the other morning
when Hannah was pouring her cereal before school.
Poor little guy. We cranked open the window and he quickly escaped.
Here he is...nervously pacing along the screen.

Third, we found a baby turtle wandering around on our front porch on Saturday.
How he got up there - I have no idea, but he climbed 3 steps to get there!
A few neighbor girls gently moved him to the other side of the golf course.

And fourth, Alec stumbled across a garter snake this afternoon while
he was roller blading on the driveway. Ian threw it one of his goldfish
in case he was hungry.

I don't know, but you'd think we were living in an episode of
swamp people.
'Cept we don't eat 'gator or squirrels from our backyard (yet).
And we don't need subtitles when we are talking.

We actually ate Grammy's Taco Salad for dinner tonight, an old family favorite:
Chopped romaine, tomatos, olives, cheese, taco meat, crushed Dorito's,
and Kraft Creamy French Dressing.

Yummy.

The toads, the frogs, and even the turtle I would put up with, but I am not into snakes one little bit ! They are a hiss and a by-word in my opine ! Yes-s-s-s, a HISS-S-S and a by-word for s-s-s-ure !

and you don't even live in "The Preserve" anymore....

That taco salad looks so yum. You've given me inspiration for dinner tonight. Thanks!
