Get-Away: Part 2

We took a different route on the way home from Traverse City.
Instead of heading straight down I-75, we went down Highway 131 to Grand Rapids.
Jeff strategically planned this out
so that we could eat dinner at this diner:

His new goal is to visit every restaurant within our reach that has been featured on Food Network's "Drive-Ins, Diners, & Dives". A little history - Rosie's Diner was moved from New Jersey in 1991. They had to cut it in half to move it and now it rests in Rockford (just outside of Grand Rapids) for all of us Michiganders to enjoy!

Jeff devoured the Hot Meatloaf Sandwich with homemade mashed potatoes on top. Alec got chicken fingers...Riley, Hannah, & Ian all got a Classic Hamburger w/Fries. I ordered the Hot Turkey Sandwich with mashed potatoes...it was heavenly and I saved the 1/2 that I didn't eat for lunch the next day. It was still yummy!

Don't you love the Coca Cola glasses??

One happy man.

They named it Rosie's Diner after the 1970's vintage Bounty commercial. Remember Rosie the waitress? It was named after her. Here's the commercial for old time's sake!

After Jeff's call to say you had been to Rosie's and he'd had the meatloaf sandwich, we went to our Leo's and I ordered the meatloaf meal as they did not have the sandwich. Forget it ! Coulda poured the gravy on cardboard and it'd been better. The Mgr. asked as we were paying : " How's the dinner tonight ?" I told him that his meatloaf was disappointing and suggested he try my recipe. (You dare do this when you get to be 69 !)

What an awesome idea! We may have to steal the idea & do it too, I love places like these!

Cute pictures, too. It sounds like such a fun vacation!

It was lots of fun. The Rosie commercial was actually filmed there!

Next stop, Gizzard City in Lansing.

That commercial is cracking me up BECAUSE I REMEMBER IT!! How sad is that? :) So, was the food fabulous? It looks like a fun place to be! I saw on a FN show too this place up by Birch Run that serves gigantic banana splits. (I think it was banana splits. It's been awhile.) I thought it would be fun to run up and see what the fuss was all about. :)

Tammy ... It's called Tony's and I don't know about Banana splits, but they make BLT's with a lb. of bacon, or so I have heard.
