Ian Thomas takes a ride on the POOP TRAIN!

Before I go into too much detail on the events of our bedtime routine this evening, I must say that only because your comments were so good for our last "potty" centered post, I couldn't keep this one to myself...

As I was putting Ian to bed tonight, he kept saying that his tummy hurt (this is his way of saying he has to poop, but I need to remind you all that he hasn't pooped on the potty yet and we've been potty training since JULY!) Anyway, I repeated to him what I always say, "I wish you'd poop on the potty, let me know if you want me to help you try." I tucked him into bed and left the room. A few minutes later he came down the stairs and said, "I think my poop is coming out!" My reply..."Let's try to do it on the potty." Now this is where the story gets exciting...HE AGREED. I helped him get comfy on the seat and we waited...and waited...TOOT...waited some more...TOOT TOOT...and what do you know??? All that tooting paid off and he went! Who knew that his middle name would become so fitting!

Anyway, the rest of the kids heard my jubilant cries and joined us in the bathroom. They, too, were thrilled with his accomplishment and we all ran downstairs to tell Daddy. All the way downstairs Ian was saying, "I get my new Thomas train now!" I bought him a Thomas train and backpack full of tracks back in August when he was doing great with #1 on the potty, but not #2. We picked out the prize together, came home, put it high on a shelf in the laundry room, and he knew that he would get it when he pooped on the potty. So, after Daddy congratulated him for his daring feat of skill, we got the train down , dusted it off, and loaded it up with batteries.

After we played with his new prize for a bit, I put him back to bed. A few minutes later I heard his pitter-patter of little feet on the landing. He had to go again! This kid was on a roll! Amazingly, he even went a third time before he finally gave in to sleep. He was a pooping machine! So, the Jeff Day family is all potty-trained and it only took 11 years to do it. TOOT TOOT!
